I love it as well! I am currently reading her first book Sense and Sensibility.

That's an interesting question . . . a book such as Mansfield Park provides a more sobering look at the plight of a young girl made dependent by a lack of "fortune" (as having any money at your disposal was called then). That was a difficult time to live in for women not born into well-to-do families. A woman's only means of setting up a life for herself then was pretty much marriage. The right marriage meant everything in this case -- not only happiness, but even being spared a life of poverty. It's still that way today in some parts of the world.
