Graph the two equations to solve the system. What is the solution? 1/2 x - 2y = 4 and 4y - x = -8 A. (-2, 0) B. no solution C. (3, 4) D. infinitely many solutions

hero (hero):

You can graph these by finding their x and y intercepts. You can also set them equal to each other algebraically to find their intersection point

A nice little trick is to see if one of the equations is the same as the other multiplied through by a number. In this case, if you multiply the first equation by -2 you get the second equation. This means you only really have one equation in two unknowns, and there is no possible way to solve this for unique x and y values. So there are infinitely many solutions as both x and y vary through the real numbers.
