What is the difference between a postulate and theorem in Geometry?

Postulates are assumptions that are generally accepted as true. Theorems are statements that have been proven using appropriate methods.

My teach told me that they really dont have much of a difference, but Postulates are true and theorems have been stated true using a "postulate".
