well George and lennie are working on the farm in order to get enough money to be free and buy there own land and do as they please, another reason they want to be free is because Lennie is always causing trouble a even though he dosent mean to. for instance, lennie is talking with the wife of the boss and he accidentally kills her by hugging her.
