The desk lamp plugs into a wall socket, and when you turn the switch on, the light does not illuminate. 1. Identify the problem. Write the problem in your own words. 2. Describe the expected behavior. How should the desk lamp function? 3. Consider how the system works. Describe how the desk lamp works as a system. Include in your description the source of the electricity, the on/off switch, and the light bulb. 4. Guess the possible causes. Describe at least three possible causes for the problem. 5. Eliminate the obvious causes. Rank the order of the solutions you would try.
This assignment seems straight forward. What is your question?
idk how to do it.
Okay well what is the problem with the desk lamp?
IDK
Well the problem is stated in the assignment.
ok so the problem is when you turn the switch on, the light does not turn on?
Yes so that is the first part (1&2). Write it down in your own words describing how the lamp should function and how it is (or is not) functioning. Then attack #3. How is the lamp a system. How does that system work? Where does the electricity come from and where does it go? How does it make the light work?
|dw:1329156248730:dw| There is your system: E=electricity (outlet) S=switch (on/off) L=light (bulb)
That mite as well be greek to me
Well what is the source of the electricity? and how is the lamp connected to it?
Im Stuck on # 3!!!
That's the one I'm trying to guide you through. Consider how the system works. Start at the outlet; the source of the electricity. Look at the diagram. Follow the electricity. Describe where it goes and what happens at each node. First it travels through the power cord and arrives at the on/off switch. What happens there? and so forth.
