a. Computer capacity is often measured in bits and bytes. A bit is the smallest unit, which is a 1 or 0, in the computer’s memory. A byte is bits. A megabyte (MB) is bytes. How many bits are in a megabyte? (Hint: Need to convert bytes to bits by knowing that 1 byte equals bits. Use your rule for multiplying powers with the same base.) 2 POINTS (write each answer as a power of 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8 bits ---> 1 byte 2^3 bits ---->1 byte but, 1024 bytes --> 2^10 bytes ---> 1KB 1024 kilobytes ---> 2^10 KB ---> 1 MB (2^3) X (2^10) X (2^10) = 2^(3+10+10) = 2^23 = 8388608 bits in 1 MB
