8 bits ---> 1 byte
2^3 bits ---->1 byte

but, 
1024 bytes --> 2^10 bytes ---> 1KB
1024 kilobytes ---> 2^10 KB ---> 1 MB

(2^3) X (2^10) X (2^10) = 2^(3+10+10) = 2^23 = 8388608 bits in 1 MB
