A greenhouse that specializes in growing carnations is divided into sections. The number of plants in each section depends on the number of sprinklers in that section. There are y(5y − 4) red carnation plants and (9 + y)2 white carnation plants in a section with y sprinklers. Which simplified expression represents the total number of red and white carnation plants in a section with y sprinklers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, basically are you looking for y, or are do you just need to make an expression?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, the options are 5y2 + 18y +77 5y4 + 14y + 81 6y2 + 14y + 81 6y2 + 18y + 77 but i already know the second one isn't it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do you know that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because My teacher said i got it wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And she's making me do corrections

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what do i do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, by the looks of it, I think we should multiply the two.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By what

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply y(5y − 4) and (9 + y)2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do that and tell me what you got :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay hold on a sec

OpenStudy (akshay_budhkar):

is the second one (9+y)^2?

OpenStudy (akshay_budhkar):

\[(9+y)^2\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it gonna be long?

OpenStudy (akshay_budhkar):

you just need to simplify the two equations separately amd "ADD" them, they just want the total number of carnations .. So simplifying gives you \[5y^2-4y+81+18y+y^2=6y^2+14y+81\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah that

OpenStudy (akshay_budhkar):

is it clear on how i get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

GOODMAN?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea, still here, Akshay did it correctly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But what's the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hahaha, Akshay did it, right up there, 6y2 + 14y + 81

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thankyou!

Your daily workout plan involves a total of 60 minutes of jogging and biking. You burn 10 calories per minute jogging and 5 calories per minute biking. How many calories will you burn in your 60−minute workout if you jog for 30 minutes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank Akshay :D give him a medal!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that 300?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
