equation of two different roots, find the range of p... 4x(x-4)= 9p-28-4px

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Would this be two different real roots?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Or just two different roots, real or complex?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just two different roots

OpenStudy (mertsj):

For 2 real roots, p must be greater than 3 or less than -4

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I don't have the complex range yet.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Oh. It's easy. For two complex roots p must be between -4 and 3.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

In other words, find the values of p that result in a discriminant of 0. That would correspond to 1 real root. All other numbers result in 2 roots--either real or complex.
