I wana choose my Ms project's topic on biometrics authentication using statistical signal processing, is there any one who knows what are hot topics in this field in US universities ? (i'm thinking about applying us universities for phd program so i'm seeking for a hot and appropriate topic )
It would help to know what sort of biology you're interested in. Biometrics is sort of a scientific dinosaur in that other, more specialized fields have replaced it in computational biology. If you are interested in molecular and cellular biology, you might want to look into computational bioinformatics. If you are interested in ecology, there are some good programs around in quantitative genetics and conservation science. Or you can approach it from the math side and go in for statistics or applied mathematics. You might want to talk to JamesJ about it - he is rumored to have a doctorate in stats. As for specific "hot topics," I can really only speak for molecular biology, but a lot of people are very interested in computational techniques for analyzing macromolecular complexity...
