Mendel discovered the inheritance mechanism, through which the hereditary factors or genes are transmitted from one to another generation. His laws are the headstone of genetics. According to the modern conception of Mendelism, each observable charachteristic on individuals (phenotype) are under control of a pair of elemental units or aleles, which are just alternative versions of a gen, and in group they form a genotype; they're transmited from generation to generation, in accordance to Mendel's principles.
