If 0 ≤ x ≤ 5 and -5 ≤ y ≤ 0, what is the minimum value of 12/|x-y|. Please explain and give answer. I would be so thankful.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try to make the denominator as large as possible

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks but I'm still confused...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

think about what the biggest the denominator could be. largest denominator means smallest reciprocal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont wanna hate on dat answer..thats motivation YO!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could the answer possibly be 2.4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think you can make is smaller

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get the 2.4? what did you make x, and what did you make y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if at first you don't succeed...

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Do what satellite said. Make x-y as large as possible. Pick the biggest x and subtract the smallest thing you can so that it will as big as you can make it. what is the biggest value of x-y?
