simplify r^2 cos 2 Ɵ = 1 . thanks! , )

Directrix (directrix):

Do you mean to change it to a Cartesian equation? What do you mean by "simplify" in this context?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

make the equation equal to r.

Directrix (directrix):

Is r^2 cos 2 Ɵ = 1 the same as r² cos²(Θ) = 1 or is it r² cos (2Θ) = 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r² cos (2Θ) = 1

Directrix (directrix):

I don't think this is a satisfactory answer but take a look at the link: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=solve+for+r%2C+r%C2%B2+cos+%282%CE%98%29+%3D+1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my professor also tld us that it can be also r² 2 cos (Θ) = 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think my prof. was not quite sure what is the right equation.

Directrix (directrix):

2 cos (Θ) is not the same as cos (2Θ) cos(2A) = cos²A − sin²A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no. what i mean is that. if the r² cos 2 (Θ) = 1, is not working, the equation could be r² 2 cos (Θ) = 1.

find r. . |dw:1329304462879:dw|
