how would you write a three P essay on The concept of scale in geography? the def. has to be the 1st P, why we use it has to be the 2nd P, and the conclusion P has to be the application of the concept, like using scale to differentate between place and region. i have a hard time introducing the first P like the thesis :-/. i know wht to write about, but im having a hard time introducing it, so thats making it hard to get started. so far, ive sorta got "Scale is the relationship between the portion of Earth being studied and Earth as a whole." then im stuck , because idk if it is good enough *
Well what you could do, if you are not sure if its good enough is to pretend that you think your current introductory sentence is good and just write the rest. Then you can read through your paragraph and decide if you think it introduces what you have written.
yeah thats a good idea :) thanks. when im done should i put it back here so u can see it? :-/
Sure :)
ok thanks :)
Scale is the relationship between the portion of Earth being studied and Earth as a whole. If a map scale is shown as a larger first number to a smaller second number, the scale is larger. If a map scale has a smaller first number and a larger second number, the scale is smaller. A large scale map only shows a small area, but it shows it in great detail. A small scale map shows a much broader view, and goes into much less detail than a large scale map.
sorry about before i typed something wrong :P
Lol, I was wondering what was happening with all these paragraphs disappearing. Hmmm I think you need to link your sentences a little better. You talk first about the proportion of the earth then a map scale - at a first glance they don't appear to be linked. I think what you are trying to talk about is that the scale on the map is how big your map is relative to the real world. "A large scale map only shows a small area, but it shows it in great detail. A small scale map shows a much broader view, and goes into much less detail than a large scale map." - these two sentences are good :) Sorry I've not said this in order.. Talking about "first number, second number" doesn't really make a whole lot of sense at first - you will probably need to describe what you mean by this eg. "On a map scale it shows a proportion of the earth size to the map size, if the earth size is larger..." (I'm not sure if that is the correct way around - but do you see what I mean?) Okay, now I'm going to run away for a little while (probs about 2 hours or more) so don't be worried if I don't reply - just means I'm not at my computer. Also, I can be pretty picky and I'm not sure what year level you're working at so don't feel bad if I have picked your writing too much :)
its ok im glad you picked at it cause i know it will be better now :)
ok do you know anything about why geographers use scale? is it to construct a spatial analysis?
Well geographers use scale for alot of reasons, its so you know that objects represented on a map are the same size as each other, yes spatial analysis - you know you can measure something on the map and calculate how big it is in reality and like you said before, it tells you how much detail is in a map :)
