3.3x+r=23.1 for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=7.7-r/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you write it out in steps?

OpenStudy (accessdenied):

\[ \begin{split} 3.3x + r &= 23.1\\ 3.3x &= 23.1 - r\\ x &= \frac{23.1}{3.3} - \frac{r}{3.3}\\ x &= 7 - \frac{10r}{33}\\ \end{split} \] We want to solve for x, so we want x to be alone on one side of the equation. We first subtract r from both sides, then divide by 3.3 to get rid of the coefficient on x and get x alone. Since we do not want decimals in the denominator, so we multiply both the numerator and denominator of r/3.3 by 10 to remove the decimal.
