I have been working on this problem for a while now, if someone can show me how to figure it out that would be great but please don't give me the anwser...... Find the tax on a dinette with a cash price of $200 that has been reduced by 20% if the tax rate is 6.5%.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you can find the price after the 20% reduction and then find 6.5% of that, you've done it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How can I do that Ive been trying to do it that way but it keeps coming out wrong?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

when you dont pay 20%; you only pay 80%

OpenStudy (amistre64):

original$ * 80% = selling price selling$ * tax = amount of tax

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhhhh now it makes sense thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6.5% x (0.80)x($200) = $10.40

OpenStudy (amistre64):

youre welcome
