Could someone please look over my essay for grammar, punctuation, flow, etc. My assignment was to pick a magazine ad and critically analyze it. I chose an ad of a 2012 Hybrid Toyota Camry set ina back roads, woodsy type area. Also I need some help trying to make my conclusion. Any feedback would be appreciated :)
In today’s American society there are an abundance of electronic and mechanical products, music, and food that can easily paint a picture of our culture today. These forms are easy easily found in magazines, on the television, on billboards, and posters. Many advertisements these days will use these methods to talk about a growing concern in our society today: environmental issues. Society has now taken a greater effort in trying to preserve and save the planet with more eco friendly products. This can be seen in many of the products made today that are eco friendly. For example, a Toyota Camry advertisement displays an extremely environmentally friendly sedan that is more fuel efficient thus decreasing the amount of emissions flowing into the atmosphere. This advertisement is set on the back roads of a rural, mountainous environment. The street is winding; there are bright blue skies and lush green grass and trees in the background. The flourishing environment depicted in the background is trying to show the point that the car is minimally damaging to the living plants around it, and that you, the driver can still enjoy a car ride without the guilt of harming Mother Earth. Also, the advertisement indicates this sedan is not just made for the city, but also the winding roads signify that is capable in tougher terrain. This ad does not have one specific audience; it is designed for anyone investing in an automobile and any one who is able to drive. This message spans even further to anyone who is trying to lessen pollution while keeping the luxurious feel of a car. The Toyota Camry certainly exhibits a lavish feel but with the flare of a sports sedan with curved but boxy shape to the edges of the car, sleek lights and a grill that resembles modern sports cars today, like a Ford Mustang. Other images on the ad include one of the car’s gauges, and photos of the driver’s dog enjoying every bit of the car ride with his head out the window. The gauges are a bright neon blue with different windows displaying the average miles per gallon the driver is using. If a driver can match these average miles per gallon as seen in the picture, they are also able to save money. The driver’s cheerful canine displays that the car is a great pick for family trips even with man’s best friend. None of the other images truly take my focus away from the large photo of the car. The larger focus gives the full display of the car, if the ad only showed images of the inside it would certainly not convince me to buy the car without seeing the exterior as well, or vise versa. All the images balanced themselves so that all of them are beneficial to the ad. On this car ad are two boxes of text, each explaining the new improvement of the car. This can appeal to former Camry owners to buy the new best thing or simply attract back the owners that did not like the previous model. The Camry being a hybrid vehicle, the text explains that this sedan will give the driver over 600 miles on a single tank of gasoline. Not to mention the 2012 Camry is more aerodynamic than the pervious model. This gives an idea that designers and engineers are constantly trying to stay ahead and think of something different and beneficial to their customers. The images kind of give some visuals of what the text is trying to portray. Referring back to the text and the comment of the car’s aerodynamics, the larger image in the middle of the ad shows the shape of the car. The car has a sleek shape to it and the background behind it is blurred, creating an illusion of how fast it is moving because of its aerodynamics. To add, the top box of text explains, “It’s ready for 627 miles of wind in your hair per tank. Are you?” The picture beside the text is directly associated with the text. The driver’s dog is having a great time sticking his head out the window, feeling the wind flow through his thick fur in complete serenity. Each box that the text is in is made of wood. This leads back to the environmentally conscious aspect of the ad, this gives a more natural feel to the eye. The colors in this ad mix together natural and clean colors with eye popping and bold. The Camry ad is displayed outside because it is a hybrid car. Lots of green grass, shrubs, tall trees, and yellow flowers are noticed in the background of the images displayed. The sky is also clear with no signs of smog or haze caused from CO2 emissions from the cars. All that can be seen are bright blue skies with big puffy clouds, which embraces the notion of a perfect sunny day. All these clean and crisp colors give the sense that the image, and the vehicle itself is less harmful to the environment versus other cars with less gas mileage. The color of the car however depicts something completely opposite. The Camry Hybrid displayed is a bright cherry red. Usually a color of this vividness is seen on sports cars, ones that we can hear engines revving from down the street. This particular color may have been chosen because it tells the viewer of the ad that this may be a hybrid car and saves the environment, but that does not mean the car has to lose a fun, energetic and lavish characteristic. The color also grabs the viewer’s attention easily and quickly. There is plenty of great news being given from this car add, particularly aerodynamics and more miles per gallon. However, underneath the good descriptions may lurk some negative points. This vehicle may be reinvented to decrease damage to the environment, but at a higher selling price, literally. Being a hybrid car with more environmentally conscious features is going to burn a little more money out of the buyer’s pocket than anticipated, and does not mean the buyer will be saving more money according to text of the advertisement.
