Let c be any constant number. Which of the following will always be perpendicular to 2x + y = 5? y equals two x plus c y equals negative two x plus c y equals negative one half times x plus c y equals one half times x plus c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perpendicular lines have neg reciprocal slopes - so what is the slope in the given line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not a negative slope - the orignial slope is -2 so the other line would have slope of 1/2 so d would have to be the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh, i seem i thought you ment the negative.. haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok - do you understand why the answer is D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the most part yes im still ooking through just to make sure though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

take the given line and put it into slop interecept from (y = -2x+ 5) then you can easily see the slope (-2) then take the negative recripocal of that slope and using C for the constant you write the perpendicular line of y = (1/2)x+c
