Which of the following characteristics distinguishes fungi from other organisms? A. Use photosynthesis to make food B. Reproduce sexually C. Unicellular D. Use absorption to obtain nutrients

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use photosynthesis to make food. Because other plant organisms can do this, whereas fungi can perform saprophytic mode of nutrition only.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't follow the logic Aroub's answer. Fungi are not photosynthetic organisms, so how would the use of photosynthesis to make food be the thing that distinguishes them from other organisms. Not only that, but plants use photosynthesis, so even if fungi did do this, which they don't by themselves, that would not distinguish them from other organisms. Actually, after rereading Aadarsh, I think he answered the question correctly, but the syntax threw me off at first. Fungi are saprophytes. So the answer to your question would be that D. they use absorption to obtain nutrition.

OpenStudy (kainui):

Fungi are most definitely not photosynthesizing organisms.
