Explain why antibiotics are ineffective against viruses.

OpenStudy (liliakarina):

Because virus are not life beings. They are infectious entities. Antibiotics only attack those living menaces

OpenStudy (kainui):

Viruses are completely different from bacteria. Antibiotics will only stop living things. Viruses can be stopped by injecting weakened or broken virus strains into the body to give a person a chance for their natural immune system to come in and get rid of it to prepare it for the real thing. This is the idea behind why you get vaccinated.

Also if we had one that worked it would kill our own cells to get to the virus, similar mode of action to natural killer cells
