The length of a telescope is 20 inches. Will the telescope fit the length of the diagonal on the base of the box?

Use the pythagorean theorem to find the diagonal. Can you do that?

The diagonal length is using Pythagorean theorem \[\sqrt{10^{2}+16^{2}} = \sqrt{356} = 18.87 < 20\] Hence, it would not fit.
