can anyone explain me GENE MAPPING and use of MARKERS in it. and from where to study them.

OpenStudy (liliakarina):

Gene mapping is a linear arregenment of markers on a chromosome or lien group. The existing relative position between markers. Relative position depends on genetic distance between markers, expressed in cM. A marker is a segment of DNA with a recognizable physical location in a chromosome and whose inheritance can be traced. A marker can be a gene or any other section of DNA without a known function. They can be used to indirectly to trace the inheritance pattern of a gene that has not been indentified yet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can STR markers mark repeating units in gene? or do they mark only the non coding sequence before genes?

OpenStudy (liliakarina):

STR markers can repeat consecutively on DNA. The variaton of the numbers of repetition is what creates alleles.
