can someone help me factor: -12x^2-28x+24?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-2x-4)(6x-6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get that pls? can u show me the steps?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can use the foil method or the x method

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes to check , but I was trying to get numbers for the product of 24 that sums up to 28?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can use -4 and -6 which = +24 when multiplied

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but dont the sum of -4 +-6 have to equal to -28? somehow?

OpenStudy (jessicap):

It would have to be the sum of (-4*6x)+(-2x*-6) which equals (-24x)+(12x)= -12. If this is true, the factorization above is incorrect. When I foil it I get -12x^2-12+24.
