Given: (Line segment) Task: Bisect . Directions: 1. Place your compass point on A and stretch the compass MORE THAN half way to point B, but not beyond B. 2. With this length, swing a large arc that will go ... continued at the link below: Written instructions: http://regentsprep.org/Regents/math/geometry/GC1/bisect.htm

1) Draw the line segment AB with a length as required. 2) Take your compass the one with 1 pin and 1 pencil holder(lol) and extend the compass 2 legs such that, the length is MORE THAN HALF OF THE LENGTH OF AB. For example: If I want to bisect a line segment of 10 cm, I will extend my pencil part of the compass such that, the compass will draw an arc which is MORE THAN 5 CM(in this case.). 3) Now, after you've drawn an arc, from point A, shift your compass WITHOUT CHANGING THE ARRANGEMENT/DISTANCE BETWEEN 2 LEGS, to point B and draw another arc which CUTS THE PREVIOUS ARC, at some point. 4) Now, just join the 2 intersection which are at the top and bottom of line segment, and there you have a bisect.
