an essential criterian for floating is that the density of liquid in which a substance is immersed has more density than the substance u can see why as u read through this buoyant force/thrust that balances the weight of the body=weight of fluid displaced by the body so for floating both the vertical forces shud balance out each other by archimedes principle the VOLUME OF FLUID DISPLACED=VOLUME OF BODY IMMERSED |dw:1329575376689:dw| v is the total volume of body immersed so that is an essential criterion for floating
