coral is made up of lots of little critters that have to live in the water the coral is made up of the little shells the little critters build.

corals have a fairly narrow band of temperatures in which they are happy. If it is too cold they can't survive. So they tend to not live too far north or too far south of the equator. I imagine that they would not like it to be too hot either - but isn't that true of everything?
