I wonder if it is possible that not everything that goes on at OS shld be recorded on google. Like if I type in part of my email address then it appears as a fan msg that I have once sent to someone. It kind of feels funny that everything that I have written, be it in a thread or in chatbox or as fan msg is being recorded.

and if it's in fan message you can delete it and you shouldn't find it in google search
and you can't find OS chat history in google

Pippa, this is the nature of a public website. Well, that said, chats are not indexed. We police those just as strictly though because it would be easy for someone to dig around in the history and schools in the United States monitor all communications for offensive content. (We don't want to be blocked from US High Schools.)

Regardless, we're working on something to meet this need and hope to have something for you in several weeks.

Its a good point, OpenStudy works as a social network too, and there should be some measures to make our content private.
