In Driving Dr. Dewey, Andrew Effrat discusses educational research. He laments its failure to fully appreciate and focus on students’ perceptions and experiences. He remembers his own feelings of being overwhelmed and disoriented and “being at sea with out my bearings” (Effrat, unpublished article, p.3) when learning to drive.
Do you agree that education and research should include more focus on students’ perceptions and experiences as key factors in the learning process?
In your view, to what extent does emotion influence and impact upon one’s learning?
