Describe two instances in which fungi act as decomposers in their ecosystems. Explain how these instances are beneficial to their environments.

Ummm when plants or animals die, fungi help to decompose them, this helps because it adds nutrients to the soil. Does that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes i need one more way they decompose/why it helps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Regeneration of soils, to keep bacteria content high. Which in turn keeps up decomposition. They also have the ability to break down tougher substances like lignin from hard plants. This means the fungi keep the nutrient content high in soils. Especially the humus layer :D
