if the leading term's exponents are equal, then you will have a horizontal asymptote at the coefficient of the leading terms. If the exponent in the numerator is less than that of the exponent in the denominator, then the horizontal asymptote is 0. If the exponent is larger in the numerator by one, you will have a slant asymptote, and you can then do long division to find it.
