Information exchange over large distances is incredibly important. It allows massive coordination efforts--not the least of which are the International Space Station and the United Nation's peacekeeping efforts. Neither of which would've been possible without modern mobility (for the ISS, this would be literal; space shuttles, electronic communications; for the UN, this would be via strategic planning with massive amounts of information available from all around the world).
