Charged particles fired in vacuum tube hit a fluorescent screen. Will it be possible to know wether they are positive or negative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't take my word on it, but I think electrons are reemitted since they cannot form a stable valence shell with the incident screen. Photons, on the other hand, are absorbed and... uh... release heat, I think?

OpenStudy (radar):

The potential of the screen will determine what charge the particles will have striking if the screen is positive with respect to the particle emitter, then the charges are negative, if the screen is negative with respect to the emitter, the charges would be positive.
