Why are headlands eroded faster than the land at the ends of inlets and bays?

sam (.sam.):

Wave refraction concentrates wave energy at the headlands increasing erosion relative to embayments, where wave energy is dispersed. They are given the concentrating energy of the wave action. Without the headland there could be no safe bays as these protect the harbors.
