If none of the sides are parallel, you use distance formula to check all the side for sets of congruent sides. If you have two sets, it would be a kite. If you have one or less, then it is only a quadrilateral.

If one set of sides are parallel, you know that it is a trapezoid.

If both sides are parallel, you now have to check two consecutive sides for congruence.
- If both of those sides are congruent, then the figure is either a rhombus or square (depending on if you have perpendicular slopes)
- If they are not congruent, the figure is either a general parallelogram or rectangle (also depending on if you have perpendicular slopes)
