TI-89 Integral/Derivative Question Hello, when trying to get the derivative of sec(x) on my TI-89 Calculator it gives me the answer of sin(x)/cos(x)^2. Now, in this instance I know it simplifies to sec(x)tan(x), but I was wondering if it was possible for the calculator to give me the answer in that form? Even better, is there a way to enter a trig function, and then see the different ways of writing it?

No, I believe that is just a limitation of the technology. You will have to transform the solutions using the properties that you learn in precal.

You could ready the owner's manula for the TI-89 or visit TI's website
