what did native americans get in exchange for allowing white settlers to travel across their land

I don't think they got much. The native Americans actually helped the white settlers more, while the white settlers didn't really give much back (except guns without ammos, tools they really didn't need). In fact, the white settlers probably hurted the Native americans more than they helped.
