Okay... so they are going in opposite directions... one is going 40 miles away from the other per hour, while one is going 20 miles away from the other per hour. 

So you add 20 and 40... and get 60.

So now we now that for each hour the travel 60 miles away from each other.

Now we need to figure out how many hours it would take for them to move 300 miles apart... So you take 300 and divide it by 60, and you get 5, which is number of hours needed for them to travel 300 miles apart :)
