Factor: xy+y+5x+5

OpenStudy (rulnick):

x(y+5)+(y+5) =(x+1)(y+5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How?

OpenStudy (rulnick):

That's all there is to it, except maybe a first step like this: xy+y+5x+5 = xy + 5x + y + 5

Thank you!

Directrix (directrix):

xy+y+5x+5 = y( x + 1) + 5 (x + 1) Think of (x + 1) as a common factor (which it is) in the way you think of 33x + 33 as having a common factor of 33. Factor out the (x + 1). y( x + 1) + 5 (x + 1) = ( x + 1) (y + 5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

xy+y+5x+5 y (x +1) + 5 ( x + 1) (x + 1) ( y + 5)
