i am doing a essay on who killed reconstruction the north or the south and i don't know which one it was that killed it could anyone help?

The South. Rutherford B. Hayes actually lost the presidential election but the Northern Republicans made a deal with the Southern Democrats. In exchange for the Democrats voting in Hayes, they wanted the Republicans to end Reconstruction. Well at least that was the official moment it was over. You could go back and research about all the sharecropping and the government agencies the North set-up during that time. That also ties into carpet baggers.
