Sue plans to paste two ribbons along the diagonals of the top surface of a rectangular gift box, as shown below.



What is the minimum length of ribbon that Sue would require?

to find length of one diagonal use pythagoras theorem
x^2 = 18^2 + 24^2
this gives x = 30
the other piece will also be 30
so length of ribbon = 60 cms

this is a 3-4-5 right angled triangle
18 = 3*6
24 = 4*6
so other side = 5*6 = 30
