is there a difference between interquartile range?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and regular range * (as in mean medium and mode)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Whats the difference?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the IQR is the range of the most likely outcomes the range itself is the total span of values

OpenStudy (amistre64):

|<----------------------------->| all of it <...........<------------->............> IQR

OpenStudy (amistre64):

You can have a range of values that span 500 but only a range of 50 might be useful

OpenStudy (chriss):

IQR is Q3-Q1 and as amistre already said, range is the entire set of data
