feature request: mark questions as closed/invalid/something If the person asking the question has gotten their problem solved, it'd be nice for them to mark the question as "closed" - it would of course stay visible, but not be lingering with us wondering if we should answer it. The same could be done for misplaced questions. In a similar fashion they could be timed out- so we're not looking at questions that were asked 2 months ago. To get the most use of people helping, there needs to be a way to do triage - the greater good for the greater number.
We mark questions as "answered" when someone has received a medal for a "good answer." You can filter the feed to only view Unanswered Questions as well. Is this similar to what you're recommending? Do you not think that our criteria for "answered" is sufficient?
But isn't it possible for me to mark an answer as good, even if I didn't pose the question? That means the original asker may still not be satisfied. If we think about it like a helpdesk system- you never want to close a helpdesk ticket until the issue has been resolved, or passed to someone else. The only person who can really say it's been resolved is the original caller. I may learn a lot from reading other conversations, and mark many answers as good, but that still leaves the original people hanging. So short answer (i'm bad at that) is no, the answered is not sufficient- now if you modified it so that the original asker had their own special "this answered my question" or "never mind" that would work.
I don't agree.
