i have a rectangular sheet of paper and i want to produce a cylinder.i can bend it in such a way that the base is the length or the base is the width.between these two possibillities which one will have a greater volume and why??

OpenStudy (rulnick):

You want the longer side to be the edge (circumference) of the base, and the shorter side to be the height.

OpenStudy (rulnick):

The volume, written in terms of the circumference and height, is:

OpenStudy (rulnick):

V = (1/2) c^2 h

OpenStudy (rulnick):

Since the circumference is squared, and the height is not, you want the longer side to be the circumference.
