is 0/0 = 1 or undefined ?

OpenStudy (rulnick):

Undef.

OpenStudy (rulnick):

Division by zero is undefined, regardless of the dividend.

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

wounded depends..

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

lim x-> 0 x/x = 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i read on some website (don't remember that but surely it wasn't some univ's website <on calculus>) that 0/0 is 1

OpenStudy (rulnick):

false. bahrom, your second statement is correct, but not your first.

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

Yes in calculus Lim as x->0 of x/x which is technically 0/0 is 1

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

depends on what approaches 0 faster, top or bottom

OpenStudy (amistre64):

0/0 is undefined; until it gets defined

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks bahrom you cleared my point this is exactly what i read on the web

OpenStudy (rulnick):

amistre is right, bahrom is not, unfortunately.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (rulnick):

For the record, all major online sources for math are consistent: 0/0 is undefined. (Bahrom's limit statement, while correct, simply does not apply to the evaluation of 0/0.)
