find the answer to number 12, photo attached, find the area

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

i'm assuming r = 2 lateral ares = pi r s = 9 pi = 28.27 sq units

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pg 621 #12 a. 31 m^2 b. 34 m^2 c. 37 m^2 theese are the answer options

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

lateral area = pi * r * s = pi * 2 * 4.5 = 9* pi = 28.27 m^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but thats not an option?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

i wonder what value that book uses for pi!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk....

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

well selena - none of those options are correct - i assure you.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

work it out on your calculator

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

unless i've got the formula wrong - i'll check

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

the website gives formula as 1/2 perimeter * slight height = 1/2 * 2 pi r * s = pi * r*s = 2 *4.5 *pi = 9 pi as before

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lateral area of Cone: A = pi r s = pi * 2 * 4.92 = 30.9 (From the pic. : s = sqrt ( 4.5² + 2²) = 4.92)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

=> a. 31 m^2
