how can we prevent the smoking habit among the citizens?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's hard to do that, we can try but people have to choose, we can do health campaigns, rise the price of the cigarettes, talk about the dangers, cancer, complications on pregnancy... but it's all about the "free will"...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

From what I understand, most smokers begin smoking when they're teens. That's the group to target, and that's can be a very difficult group to get through to.

Because that's such a volatile time, when kids are learning to strike out on their own, develop their own soon-to-be-adult selves. Risk-taking is part of that process, and peers are more important then to a person than they are likely ever to be again. So what one's friends are doing is far more important to a person then than any messages from the media.

thnk u very much 4 the opinions..certainly teenagers are mostly involved in this bad habit..

ban tobaccos! but that's the root so we must stop it.. people are totally addicted with but maybe through devoting theirselves in activities, it might somewhat help if you change your habit into something productive.

But if we were to ban tobacco, wouldn't we just be encouraging a black market in the stuff? Then we'd have the situation with tobacco that we have now with the other illegal drugs, with huge criminal organizations springing up to supply the stuff. Those higher in the organization would profit; those lower would be the ones to go to jail. And there would be blood shed over the nasty stuff. The only way to bring about change is to remove the demand. But doing that is not at all easy, and through normal channels will perhaps never be achieved. I've heard talk of a cocaine vaccine. If we could develop the means of completely dismantling the addiction to various drugs, wouldn't that be the surest way to dismantle the entire criminal element *and* give people back their lives?
