lim x-->4^- |x|/x and lim x-->0^- |x|/x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does the ^ mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh never mind i got it. limit from the right and left

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first one is \[\frac{4}{4}=1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

second one is \[\frac{-x}{x}=-1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because you are taking the limit as x goes to zero from below, which means that x is negative, which makes |x| = -x
