We have \[7x^2+3y^2=187\] \[3y^2-7x=47\] Let's subtract 2nd from 1st, we get \[7x^2+3y^2-(3y^2-7x)=187-47\] we get \[7x^2+7x=140\] divide the whole equation by 7 \[x^2+x=20\] subtract both sides by 20 \[x^2+x-20=0\] rini do you know how to solve a quadratic equation? Do you know what is the sum of roots of a quadratic?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Solve it and tell what are the roots?
