What does the Law of Conservation of Energy tell us?

OpenStudy (nottim):

It tells us that energy can not be made or destroyed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In a closed system. Energy CAN be made or destroyed in an open system, because, you know, if I have a basket of five apples, and I put in another apple, I'll have six apples.

OpenStudy (nottim):

Universally?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The Universe is a closed system, IIRC.

OpenStudy (nottim):

It better be.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But then black hole thermodynamics, which I don't know much about.

OpenStudy (nottim):

BUGGER

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How about in an 'isolated system'? :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Better.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed but remains constant through out a process, however tranformation of energy can take place but for an isolated body energy always remains conserved/.
