The Admiralty Courts were military trial courts imposed by King George III on the American colonists. The Admiralty Courts did not require a trial by jury and convictions were based off of very weak evidence. Because of this, colonists felt that King George was depriving them of liberty. In fact, the main purpose of the Admiralty Courts was not to settle legal issues but to exercise and enforce the series of new tax laws Parliament had passed.
