OpenStudy (anonymous):

how doyou tell the difference between a brain infection or a brain tumor

OpenStudy (blues):

The actual diagnostic criteria depend on the specific type of infection and the specific type of tumor. In general, brain tumors are solid - they are an actual, solid, macroscopic item which can be visualized with a brain scan, PET scan or MRI - whereas infections are not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is a white object on an MRI that looks like a comet

OpenStudy (blues):

By white object do you mean "opacity?"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can not see any similarities between these tow diseases unless the site *_*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by the way, brain tumer is uncontrolled growth of brain cells which will end by solid mass while brain infection is a disease where the brain attacked by any microorganism like bacteria, viruses ....etc

OpenStudy (blues):

The actual underlying causes of the two different types of diseases are different. But some of the physiologic and immunologic responses are similar, depending on which actual infection and which actual brain cancers you're talking about. So I guess the question holds water in that sense.

OpenStudy (agreene):

a virus is not a microorganism, by the way--they are not alive, and thus not an organism. And you didnt ask for the difference, but how to tell the difference, which blues is doing great at trying to explain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, is the asker trying to identify the diagnostic meathod in both ?? is this the question ??

OpenStudy (agreene):

I'm not entirely sure, but it seems that way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if so means I can help you in this brain infection can be identified by doing simple test called Gram stain for the CSF which will be like examining it under the microscope and culture as well would be helpful in this,, brain tumer can be diagnosed by the MRI as mentioned before

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it will be great if the asker specify his need is it differences in signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatment ,,,,,,,etc
